When you walk into the new science wing, you can already feel a new kind of vibe. This vibe is calm modern and neutral. This creates a very easy space for learning and conversation. When you look around you can see the modern furniture and the creative art all over the walls. What this does is encourage abstract thinking. The feel of the area is comfortable because specifically there are no desks and virtually no teachers around.
We spent a very good amount of time in the study area by the biology wing. The area was very open and with big windows that allow you to see the out doors. The colors used for the walls, the paintings and the art is very neutral and non distracting. This creates a healthy learning environment that is described as a sanctified zone: a very important detail in our pledge as a university. I think this specific area is like an escape from your problems because it is very calm and quiet. This would be a perfect place to do homework, get comfortable and be able to stay on task all at the same time.

My "Magical Black Man"
Ever since I was a little girl, I played the piano. You can say that I was pretty obsessed with it. Only in the beginning though... I played every day; "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" on repeat. Then there were tougher songs that my teacher would give me by composers like Bach or Chopin. Years later I realized I hated playing the piano. Although the music that these composers wrote were phenomenal and utterly beautiful, I hated playing their music. I could never do it as well as they did because I always had a simpler version and it never sounded as cool. I dreaded practicing every day and doing my stupid chords and triads. I almost got to the point where I never wanted my fingers to touch a piano ever again. Then one day my teacher told me I had to think of something that will make me enjoy playing the piano. If it be give myself rewards every week for learning a song or doing competitions, whatever it would take for me to actually do what I need to do. Then one day I heard One Republic's song, "Apologize". I was in love. I found the notes online, printed them out and brought them to my teacher. She said that my idea of doing contemporary music was a really good idea. I learned the song and ever since then have played strictly contemporary music and learned how to play songs like "Set Fire to the Rain" and "Jar of Hearts". I'm so glad that I can express my passion in a different way that I can probably continue to do for the rest of my life. I hope that everyone can feel the way I feel when my fingers glide across my piano.

Passage-Based Focused Freewrite for MLK's "Letter from Birmingham Jail."
"You may well ask, "Why direct action? Why sit-ins, marches, etc.? Isn't negotiation a better path?" You are exactly right in your call for negotiation. Indeed, this is the purpose of direct action. Nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and establish such creative tension that a community that has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue."
(1st page, 5 paragraph in "Letters from Birmingham City Jail"
What really strikes me from this passage is the way MLK talks about his procedure on how to get a reaction out of the people. He's saying that you cannot simply negotiate. You have to create some tension so that they understand that there is a problem to even begin with. Without this tension, the whites have the benefit of not knowing what is going on. When I read this, I realized how much thought had to be put into this. His thought process has been used for numerous other issues in history. The reason that people do protests nowadays is to create the this "tension" that MLK is talking about.
MLK had to have realized that there was something done wrong consistently in the past; so much so, that there was little to no change or outcome. He had to change the way they attack the problem. According to this passage, MLK assumes that most people think that the best way to get a reaction is to go straight to negotiation. This is why I believe and assume MLK was the one to brain storm this whole new idea of protest and changing ideas internationally.
