My "Magical Black Man"

Ever since I was a little girl, I played the piano. You can say that I was pretty obsessed with it. Only in the beginning though... I played every day; "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" on repeat. Then there were tougher songs that my teacher would give me by composers like Bach or Chopin. Years later I realized I hated playing the piano. Although the music that these composers wrote were phenomenal and utterly beautiful, I hated playing their music. I could never do it as well as they did because I always had a simpler version and it never sounded as cool. I dreaded practicing every day and doing my stupid chords and triads. I almost got to the point where I never wanted my fingers to touch a piano ever again. Then one day my teacher told me I had to think of something that will make me enjoy playing the piano. If it be give myself rewards every week for learning a song or doing competitions, whatever it would take for me to actually do what I need to do. Then one day I heard One Republic's song, "Apologize". I was in love. I found the notes online, printed them out and brought them to my teacher. She said that my idea of doing contemporary music was a really good idea. I learned the song and ever since then have played strictly contemporary music and learned how to play songs like "Set Fire to the Rain" and "Jar of Hearts". I'm so glad that I can express my passion in a different way that I can probably continue to do for the rest of my life.  I hope that everyone can feel the way I feel when my fingers glide across my piano.
